What is Feng Shui?

What are you GRATEFUL for in 2012?

Yearly and monthly planetary movements in our Universe shift and change the energy we experience on Earth. This is reflected in our own life experience and quality of living.

These planetary movements, called Annual Flying Stars, are the most powerful elements of Feng Shui as they accurately forecast the environmental energy across the year, allowing us to know which areas of our lives will go well and which areas are potentially disastrous! The good energy areas of life provide us with opportunities to advance further & reap rewards and the bad require cures and remedies to prevent us from experiencing unnecessary negativity & bad experiences in our lives.

This year, 2013, is the Year of the Snake.

Snakes can be deadly, they are poisonous, the can be aggressive & chase you…and quite frankly you don’t want to be bitten!
This year we all need to charm the Snake, making it work for us!

A Note about: Personal Feng Shui Animal Horoscopes 2013
All babies born between 10^th February 2013 – 30^th January 2014 will be little Water Snakes.

Depending on the year you were born, you too will have been born under the reign of an Animal, which follows a 12-year cycle:

2010 was Tiger
2011 was Rabbit
2012 was Dragon
2013 IS SNAKE
2014 will be Horse
2015 will be Sheep
2016 will be Monkey
2017 will be Rooster
2018 will be Dog
2019 will be Boar (Pig)
2020 will be Rat
2021 will be Ox
then we’re back to Tiger again in 2022 and so on…

Each Animal sign is affected in different ways depending on the Annual Animal (in our case Snake). The Chinese selected Animal representation for their Zodiac as it best describes the characteristics of the person. For example, Rats like to be amongst lots of other Rats and their families and communities are important to them. Roosters tend to talk, a lot, and often loudly! At a very basic level you can look at the Annual Animal, then look at your own Animal and decide if they are friends or enemies in the Animal Kingdom. For example, Snakes eat Rabbits…so Rabbits will not have a very good year at all in 2013, unless they protect themselves with traditional cures and remedies.

Feng Shui in the Garden

Whether you are looking to create a zen space to meditate & practice yoga, or maybe you need extra space for entertaining friends and family, gardens today are viewed as another room of the house, with many inside-outside constructions used all year round as overhead cover creates shelter & shade in summer and simply by adding an outdoor heater immediate warmth for winter. Enhancing your entire outside space through the use of energy techniques taken from ancient principles of Feng Shui used in contemporary ways, really compliments the way we live in our modern times. Feng Shui in the garden does not have to mean zen design with Bamboo & Japanese Maple Trees, instead consider your garden as is a reflection of your lifestyle. For some, this is all about entertaining friends and family, ensuring there is plenty for the kids to do. For others, gardens need to be restful relaxing spaces, where nature can be viewed at it’s best, the perfect place to read a book, listening to the birds in the trees. These opposing usages reflects the Yin and Yang aspects of Feng Shui’s ability to enhance energy and create anything you desire, from a pixie-land paradise to, uber-modern entertainment spaces for high-society socializing.

To assist your wellbeing, understand certain compass point directions align with certain aspects of your life. For example, the Southeast area of your garden is linked with your personal fortune and wealth, so this is an area you should always keep well manicured, ensuring you deadhead plants and collect any fallen leaves regularly, keep any shrubs under control during their growth spells and avoid planting any sharp or prickly plants here, instead opt for larger soft leaf plants, trees or foliage. The plump-leaf variety of Jade plants are nick-named ‘money-plants’ which will grow to bush size in pots or in the ground in fair climates. The citrus and mint families are also linked to money. In traditional Feng Shui water is associated with money, so having a water feature flowing towards the direction of the house in the SE is said to encourage the flow of income into your life. So if you do already have a pond, fountain or water feature here, it may be a good opportunity to ensure it is working at it’s optimum (just as you want your finances to be!), refill with fresh, clean water and set the pump to flow at a medium speed. Living on or near natural water, such as the ocean or a waterfall is said to create millionaires and it’s always better to have the water flowing towards you (money coming in) not moving away from you.

If you’re looking to create a more intimate area for you and your partner, the South-West is linked to romance so would be a perfect spot to place a lovers bench, grow frilly plants such as peonies or sweet smelling Jasmine climbers. Orange blossom bushes will also provide a really delicate scent and hedgerow for privacy.

Alternatively if you are wanting to create an action packed, fun space for the kids to burn off school holiday energy, consider creating a miniature kids pleasure park in the Western part of the garden, associated with children. Very often this area can take brighter, bolder colours and shapes, although consider overhead shade options to protect their delicate skin on sunny summer days. Imagination really can come into play here with tree-houses, dens, sandpits, the creation of outdoor garden sculptures, home-made hanging mobiles and for any little green fingers, a veggie patch will provide hours of fun.

Outdoor furniture and lighting both play a significant role in creating an ambient, year-round space. Classical furniture styles are often better suited in the north of a garden whereas unique, contemporary styles energetically mesh with the south, linked to fame. Balancing furniture materials such as metal, glass or wood and colour schemes can only be determined through the energy analysis of the individual garden chart, however as a broad guide, warm, bright lighting, shapes, patterns and colours would suit a higher energy space, whereas cooler shades work better in a restful environment.

Creating an ambient Feng Shuied garden that meets all your needs not only provides you with an additional room in the house, but adds value to your property and quality of life, so get out and enjoy creating magic this spring and relax and delight in your hard work all summer long!
